EMDR Consultation

What I most love to do professionally (other than all things to do with EMDR) is to assist other mental health professionals to develop their expertise using EMDR and related adjunct approaches (such as parts work) to best assist their clients.

As an accredited EMDR Consultant, I offer individual and group consultation sessions, usually conducted via zoom.  These consultations can focus on EMDR work with children, adolescents and/or adults, and on any EMDR-related theme.

Consultation is an important pathway towards development and lifelong learning as an EMDR clinician.  It is part of achieving accreditation as an EMDR Practitioner, and to become an EMDR Consultant, and is beneficial at all stages of one’s EMDR career.

EMDR consultation is different from supervision.  Supervision tends to have more of a focus on the therapy process, including interpersonal and intrapersonal observations and reflections, and exploration of ethical, organisational and diversity issues.  When beginning our work together, we will discuss your consultation versus supervision needs, and individualise our plan accordingly.

In EMDR consultation we are likely to focus on:

  • Case conceptualisation using the Adaptive Information Processing theory and other important adjunctive theories
  • Understanding adaptations of the standard EMDR protocols for working with specific client groups and various presenting issues
  • Troubleshooting challenges that arise
  • How to integrate other treatment modalities, when helpful, for optimal outcomes

EMDR Therapy is an integrative treatment approach.  Other relevant theories and approaches are included, when helpful, based on the case conceptualisation.  For example, in work with children, EMDR will be integrated with play therapy approaches and parenting coaching may be indicated.  Inclusion of helpful adjunct theories and therapies are therefore included in EMDR consultation.

If you are a mental health practitioner looking for support, guidance and development on your EMDR journey, I would love to hear from you.
